Finding Mr Goldman by David Rhodes

February 12, 2016

FMGThere are resonances of Dives and Lazarus and of ‘Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal.

There’s also a Naaman the leper moment.

Or of the acceptable face of the notion of Purgatory – as a learning experience where you see the effects on your decisions and investments upon people thousands of miles way.

But there’s a cheap grace/ forgiveness towards the end. – too easy.

Had he known the hour of his death, the wealthy Harry Goldman might have arranged his day differently. Instead, he finds himself plunged into a nightmare in which his life of violence and ruthless greed is laid bare before him. Accompanied by a disreputable-looking but likeable tramp, who bears a striking resemblance to Jesus, Goldman sets out on a quest to save his soul. But, confronted by the shattering reality of hell, he becomes convinced all is lost. But no one is beyond the redeeming love of God.
