Religious Education in the New Curriculum – The RE Council

November 21, 2015

RECThe first RE Agreed Syllabus I encountered, in 1975, was 4 pages long. Our current one stretches to well over a thousand pages.

The government wants t reign in all this verbiage. The History document is 10 pages. The RE Council have produced a similar size document, which can sit on top of guidance from previous documents.

In  order  to  be  religiously  literate,  all  pupils:

  • know  about  and  understand  a  range  of  religions  and  worldviews
  • express  ideas  and  insights  about  the  nature,  significance  and  impact  of  religions  and  worldviews;
  • gain and  deploy  the  skills  needed  to  engage  seriously  with  religions  and  worldviews

We still have key questions to kick off units. There is a very helpful questions bank which syllabus makes can use.

There are also useful planning grids which show progression a cross the three key stages.

The report is online here
